The Abraham Peace Accord, instituted by the United States, was a joint peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel. This was a historic event that was signed on September 15, 2020, on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington DC. This peace treaty was a historic moment for Jews and Arabs alike, granting each country new privileges. This accord’s sole purpose is to normalize diplomatic relationships between the two countries, but facilitated a new hope and a bright future ahead since the last peace deal between Israel in Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs decided to take part in the accords to combat the threats he received regarding the infamous two state solution, and the annexation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was thinking about carrying out on the neighboring Palistenian territories. After the declaration of the peace deal, the first El Al airliner landed in the United Arab Emirates, after the first three hour flight to ever fly over UAE airspace. This peace treaty is hopefully only the start of standardizing Israel’s relations with Arab countries, and we hope to see more in the future!
