The month of Adar in SKA is always filled with lots of fun. The fun started with the Rosh Chodesh breakfast on Thursday, February 15th. Students came dressed in costume ready to dance and win the costume contest. Each grade dressed according to a different theme with the ninth graders dressed in Disney theme, tenth graders as sports, eleventh graders as animals, and twelfth graders as decades. The costumes were very creative and everyone could tell it was the start of a great month. The twelfth graders dressed up in costume with different themes every day leading up to Purim to help the school get into Adar mode.

iShine Carnival

The week of Purim was packed with fun. On Monday night, February 26th, there was an iShine carnival at SKA. iShine is a program for siblings with a family member who is ill or who experienced loss in the family. Every year, SKA hosts a Purim carnival for iShine families. All the booths were organized and run by SKA students. There were also blow ups, popcorn, cotton candy, and a costume contest. It was incredible to be able to bring some happiness to these families.

On Tuesday, February 27th, SKA hosted its annual school chagigah. The theme was “Purim in the Future.” Students and faculty came dressed up in some of the most creative attire from doctors and mothers to nefesh b’nefesh and brides. The room was decorated incredibly by the G.O. and there was an amazing Purim shpiel shown to the whole school which was created by a few seniors.

The next night, after Megillah reading and breaking the fast, each grade went to a classmate’s home. The grade madrichot and grade level advisors went to all the parties. The seniors, however, started at one classmate’s home  and then there was a bus to take them to teachers’ houses to dance and connect with the amazing teachers who opened up their houses to the entire grade. On Purim day, as well, many teachers and faculty opened their homes to the SKA family. What an incredible Adar it was!
